Reading & Writing 1 helps younger elementary school students build confidence and competence in the core skills of both academic and personal writing and in reading and enjoying classic works of literature. In the reading portion of the course, students will enjoy two landmark stories of magic and fantasy, Tae Keller's When You Trap a Tiger and C.S. Lewis's The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. In the writing portion of the course, students will be engaged with writing projects that align with age-appropriate developmental milestones: self-understanding, making choices, understanding others and community, problem-solving, and ethical awareness. A vocabulary component for both portions will strengthen students' lexicon and reading and writing acumen.
Note: The novels for this course must be purchased separately.
